Traditional Uyghur Dance
MFA研究与表演项目｜维吾尔族传统舞
Zhula was an important research and performance project developed by Dongmei Huang during her Master of Fine Arts studies at Beijing Dance Academy.
The project represented a culmination of her long-term study and exploration of traditional Uyghur dance.
Zhula originates from the Ushshaq Muqam of the Uyghur Twelve Muqam tradition and is associated with the traditional Sanam dance form.
Characterized by elegance, restraint, grace, and strong internal expressiveness, Zhula places particular emphasis on rhythm, gaze, posture, musicality, and the subtle stylistic qualities of traditional Uyghur movement.
Rather than relying on virtuosic turns or acrobatic technique, the work requires a deep understanding of cultural style, inner expression, and the relationship between movement and music.
As part of her MFA research, Dongmei traveled to Xinjiang for field study, where she further explored traditional Uyghur dance and learned from local dance specialists and artists associated with the Xinjiang Muqam Art Troupe.
Her research examined the historical origins of Zhula, its relationship to the Twelve Muqam and Ushshaq Muqam, its musical structure, traditional movement vocabulary, and performance style.
The project culminated in both written academic research and a stage presentation.
This research also built upon Dongmei’s earlier training in Uyghur dance. She had previously studied traditional Uyghur dance with renowned artist Hailiqiem Sidik and received a perfect score in the related course assessment.
Through the research and performance of Zhula, Dongmei deepened her understanding of the relationship between movement, music, cultural heritage, and artistic spirit within traditional ethnic dance.
The project also strengthened her continuing interest in the preservation, transmission, and contemporary interpretation of traditional dance culture.

《朱拉》是黄冬梅在北京舞蹈学院攻读艺术硕士（MFA）期间的重要研究与舞台实践项目，也是她长期学习与探索维吾尔族传统舞蹈的一次集中呈现。
《朱拉》源自维吾尔族十二木卡姆中的乌夏克木卡姆，是具有代表性的传统赛乃姆舞蹈。
作品以优雅、端庄、含蓄而富有内在表现力的身体语言见长。与依靠大量技术技巧的舞蹈不同，《朱拉》更强调舞者对节奏、神态、气韵、身体姿态以及维吾尔族传统舞蹈风格与内在精神的理解和表达。
为完成这一MFA研究，黄冬梅在导师支持下专程赴新疆进行实地采风，深入学习和研究维吾尔族传统舞蹈，并向当地维吾尔族舞蹈专家及新疆木卡姆艺术团艺术家请教。
研究内容涵盖《朱拉》的历史来源、十二木卡姆文化背景、乌夏克木卡姆、音乐结构、传统舞蹈形态及表演风格等多个方面，并最终完成相关学位论文研究与舞台展示。
这一项目也延续了黄冬梅此前对维吾尔族舞蹈的长期学习。她曾接受著名维吾尔族舞蹈艺术家海力且姆·斯迪克的传统舞课程训练，并在相关课程中取得满分成绩。
通过《朱拉》的研究与表演，黄冬梅进一步深入理解了传统民族舞蹈中身体语言、音乐、文化与精神之间的关系，也进一步确立了她对传统文化保护、传承与当代表达的持续关注。

During her studies at Beijing Dance Academy, Dongmei studied traditional Uyghur dance for a full semester with renowned Uyghur dance artist Hailiqiem Sidik and received a perfect score in the final course assessment.

She later participated in the development and recording of Uyghur dance teaching materials led by Hailiqiem Sidik.
This experience formed an important part of Dongmei’s training in Chinese ethnic and folk dance and contributed significantly to the foundation of her later work in performance, dance education, traditional dance research, and choreography.
在北京舞蹈学院学习期间，黄冬梅曾接受著名维吾尔族舞蹈艺术家海力且姆·斯迪克为期一学期的专业授课，并在结业课程中取得满分成绩。
此后，她参与由海力且姆·斯迪克主编的维吾尔族舞蹈教材相关编写与录制工作。
这一经历不仅构成了她中国民族民间舞专业训练的重要组成部分，也为她后来在舞台表演、教学、民族舞蹈研究与艺术创作方面奠定了扎实基础。

Dance North

In 2017, Dongmei was invited to perform at Fall for Dance North (FFDN) in Toronto, Canada, where she presented her signature solo work, A Blossoming Apricot Branch.
The work was the only solo dance featured in its performance program and received a highly positive response from local artists and audiences.
The performance also represented an important opportunity for Dongmei to present Chinese dance on a major Canadian international dance platform.

2017年，黄冬梅受邀参加加拿大多伦多 Fall for Dance North（FFDN）国际舞蹈节，表演其代表独舞作品《一枝红杏》。
该作品为相关演出场次中唯一一支独舞作品，并获得当地艺术家及观众的积极评价。
此次演出也是黄冬梅将中国舞作品带入加拿大主流国际舞蹈平台的重要艺术实践之一。

During her years living and creating in Vancouver, Dongmei actively participated in charitable and community-based cultural events, contributing through dance performance, choreography, and artistic collaboration.
She believes that dance can extend beyond the traditional theatre and enter broader community spaces, creating meaningful connections among people from different cultural and social backgrounds.
Through these activities, Dongmei has sought to contribute her professional skills in support of charitable causes and community engagement.
For Dongmei, dance is not only a form of artistic expression, but also a way to connect people, communicate emotion, and give back to the community.
在温哥华生活和创作期间，黄冬梅积极参与当地公益、慈善及社区文化艺术活动，多次以舞蹈表演、编创及艺术合作的方式支持公益事业。
